Aportha – Omega-3 Vegan 60 capsules
Omega-3 algae oil capsules with DHA, EPA and DPA
The vegan omega-3 algae oil capsules provide
- 250 mg docosahexaenoic acid (DHA),
- 36 mg docosapentaenoic acid (DPA)
- 8 mg eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) per capsule.
The following three health claims for docosahexaenoic acid DHA and eicosapentaenoic acid EPA are permitted:
- Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) contribute to normal heart function. This positive effect occurs with a daily intake of 250 mg of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
- DHA or docosahexaenoic acid contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function. This positive effect occurs with a daily intake of 250 mg of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
- Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) contributes to the maintenance of normal vision. This positive effect is achieved with a daily intake of 250 mg docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
Differences in vegan omega-3 oils
With vegan omega-3 sources, a distinction must be made between different types of omega-3 fatty acids.
Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)
This plant-based omega-3 is obtained from flaxseed, chia seeds, linseed oil or walnuts, for example. Unfortunately, only 2% to 5% of these omega-3 fatty acids can be converted by the human body into the important EPA eicosapentaenoic acid and DHA docosahexaenoic acid fatty acids.
Although the valuable ALA omega-3 fatty acids from linseed oil and chia seeds are a good supplement to a healthy diet, they are not sufficient for supply of eicosapentaenoic acid EPA and docosahexaenoic acid DHA due to the low conversion rate.
Vegan omega-3 from algae oil
Omega-3 algae oil is extracted from the mircoalga Schizochytrium and contains a lot of natural vegan docosahexaenoic acid DHA and also some eicosapentaenoic acid EPA.
Docosapentaenoic acid DPA
Another polyunsaturated fatty acid from the group of omega-3 fatty acids (n-3-LCPUFA) is docosapentaenoic acid DPA. Docosapentaenoic acid DPA is otherwise only found in fatty fish (especially herring, mackerel, tuna, salmon and sardines), fish oil, cod liver oil and meat. Omega-3 algae oil is an alternative and important vegan source of docosapentaenoic acid DPA.
